After obtaining her B.A. in Political Science and Sociology at Fordham University in 2014, Jessenia Caquias, Esq. began her legal career as a legal assistant in an immigration law firm in NYC. There, she prepared and filed legal documents in Immigration Court and USCIS, translated asylum interviews at the New York Asylum Office, and co-hosted radio, television, and video blog programs related to the various forms of immigration relief. It was there where she discovered her passion for providing a voice for those who need it most.

“As a legal assistant, I had a real and direct effect on the lives of others. I dedicated those years of my life to reaching as many people as possible and informing them of their immigration options. When clients ultimately decided to confide in the expertise of our office, I made sure to provide excellent customer service and efficient processing of their cases. I gained so much real world knowledge and developed a stronger sense of compassion by working with the disenfranchised and witnessing firsthand the barriers that exist for those who want a piece of the American dream.”

By the time she attended law school, Jessenia had developed a sincere passion for the work she wanted to do in the immigration field. She entered law school with the maturity and awareness that she could make a difference, because she already had.

Jessenia’s later educational and professional experiences further helped her build a solid foundation for a career as an immigration attorney. She received her J.D. from Rutgers Law School where she participated in both the school’s National Mock Trial Team and Moot Court Board. She was also a member of the Minority Student Program. During law school, she accumulated practical experience performing in a courtroom setting. As an intern for a Newark based immigration office, Jessenia assisted the attorneys on the detention team by participating in weekly intakes at the Elizabeth Detention Center and by appearing in immigration court for master calendar hearings and bond hearings. As a clinical student in the Rutgers Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic, she appeared as Guardian Ad Litem before the Superior Court Chancery Division in Newark, NJ.

After law school, Jessenia served as a Law Clerk in the Passaic County Superior Court of New Jersey in the Criminal Division, during the 2019-2020 term. There, she conducted an extensive amount of legal research and writing for a variety of different criminal matters.

Prior to founding her office, Jessenia was an assistant prosecutor in Union County where she handled various motions during her time in the Pre-Indictment Division.

Jessenia credits these experiences with helping her to develop strong advocacy skills, good professional judgment and a willingness to tackle complex legal issues.
